GTI Power Generation is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and global exporters of diesel generators and power generation equipment – designing products for various sectors including construction, agriculture, healthcare and hospitality.

To reduce utility costs and carbon emissions across their busy site, GTI Power Generation began looking at solar PV to combat rising energy prices and make their operations as sustainable as possible.

Company Secretary Tina James said:

“We use a lot of electricity and wanted to explore ways of reducing our bills. We were fortunate to receive a grant to cover the upfront installation costs and were advised to speak with various providers – including Plug me in who we chose to handle the project.”

Installation details:
Plug me in delivered a 50.82 kWp solar PV system that generates 43,705 kWh a year – big enough to power GTI’s operations whilst also reducing their carbon output by 9.2 tonnes annually. Over the system’s lifetime, this equates to removing 38 petrol-powered cars from the road.

Reflecting on the process, Tina said:
“Our experience with Plug me in was really positive. Everything went as planned and we appreciated the quick lead times from initial quote through to commissioning. Since completion, we were delighted to see lower electricity costs immediately.”

Financial and environmental impact:
GTI Power Generation’s solar PV system significantly reduces their energy costs as well as their carbon emissions. Harnessing renewable solar energy not only boosts their green credentials but allows them to re-channel the money they’re saving into other parts of the business.

Looking ahead:

With a vast quantity of the energy they use now coming through solar, GTI Power Generation are already in a much greener place. 

Their solar system is the foundation for future renewable upgrades – which could include battery storage that allows them to keep more of the energy they produce or sell it back to the Grid, further boosting their financial returns.
