Commercial Solar Battery & Storage

Reduce energy costs, manage peak demand and get more from your solar with commercial battery storage.

Energy costs, rising demand and pressure to reduce carbon emissions are creating new challenges for UK businesses. Commercial battery storage can help you take greater control of how and when your business uses electricity.

How can a battery system benefit my business?

Commercial battery storage lets businesses store electricity when it’s cheaper or when your solar system is generating excess power, then use it when electricity costs or site demand are higher. Plug me in can design, install, finance and manage a battery energy storage system (BESS) around your business’s energy profile - helping you reduce grid consumption, maximise solar self-consumption and explore additional revenue from eligible grid services.

Benefits of battery storage

Manage your grid connection

Battery storage can help manage peaks in site demand and may reduce the need for additional network capacity. Plus, you can generate income through National Grid by providing balancing services.

Reduce peak electricity costs

Store electricity and discharge it when your site is drawing heavily from the grid, helping reduce peak-period consumption and demand-related costs where applicable.

Improve energy resilience

Keep operations running even during a power cut with backup power for critical loads during an interruption.

Avoid costly upgrades

Reduce peak consumption of electricity and avoid the need for pricey capacity upgrades. Plus, we can design around existing solar panels so you can maximise the energy investments you’ve already made.

Flexible financing for your battery assets

You don't necessarily need to fund your battery system entirely from your own capital. Depending on your business and project, we can discuss the options available to you, which may include finance arrangements to spread the cost over time, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) which allow for energy infrastructure installation without the upfront cost.

Stanwick Lakes, Northamptonshire

A smarter way to generate, store and use energy

Stanwick Lakes wanted to take greater control of its energy use while reducing costs and its environmental impact. Working with Plug Me In, the organisation expanded its solar generation with a 64.68 kWp solar PV system and 27 kWh of battery storage, supported by intelligent energy management. The system is designed so that 100% of the electricity generated is consumed on site, allowing Stanwick Lakes to make the most of its own renewable energy rather than exporting surplus power.

FAQs

How much does commercial battery storage cost?

The cost depends on the battery's capacity, power rating, system configuration, installation requirements, electrical infrastructure and whether it is being installed alongside solar. When you book a site visit with our team, we’ll review your site requirements and energy profile before providing a project-specific proposal.

How long does a commercial battery last?

Battery lifespan depends on the technology, operating conditions, cycling and system management. We can advise on expected performance and asset management as part of your project design.

What size solar battery do I need?

Battery size and storage capacity should be based on your electricity consumption, peak demand, solar generation, tariff and the way you want the battery to operate. Bigger isn't necessarily better. Our team are happy to advise on the right solar panel batteries for your business.

Can I add a battery to my existing commercial solar system?

Yes, subject to the existing system, electrical infrastructure, equipment compatibility and grid connection. We'll assess your existing installation before recommending a solution.

Can I add battery storage or EV charging to my system later?

Absolutely. Our end-to-end service model covers everything from your initial survey and design through to long-term operations and maintenance, including adding battery storage and EV charging to your commercial property at a later date. They are a great way to power up your team and daily operations.

What is BESS?

BESS stands for Battery Energy Storage System. A commercial BESS typically combines batteries, power-conversion equipment, controls and energy-management software to store and discharge electricity according to the site's requirements.
